100 Word Challenge - Tragic

What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by our heroine, Velvet Verbosity. The word is 'Tragic'. This will be an exlporation of 'tragic' without using the word.

The preacher stood the pulpit, speaking to his congregation.
He was a man, no more no less.
But he had assumed the mantle of the Holy Man.
He had taken on the resposibility of guiding his flock to whatever there was of goodness and light in the world, working against the forces of darkenss and evil.
Such men are rare among us, but we find them on Sunday.
A man walked down the center aisle of the church, pulled out a gun, and shot the preacher three times.
The preacher, dead. The man, in custody. The congregation, stunned and mourning.

The story is true. It happened this morning in Central Illinois.

May God have mercy on his soul.

That was so poignant, and so fitting for that tragedy. Nicely done.

OMG- I sure wasn't expecting that! My mouth is literally still ajar.
Your 100 word challenge is wonderful but I'm just stuck on the fact this is a true story.

Just so sad and heartbreaking living in this world today.

It's a senseless tragedy, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the whole thing.

OH MY GOD!!! I had no idea. I've turned off the tv today to focus on the goodness in my life. I had no idea.

Prayers to the families affected.

Tragedy. I'm speechless.

None of us know when tragedy will strike, or where, or who. A good reason to live every day as though it might be the last. I wonder what kind of suffering drives a man to kill a priest.

Some things still make my jaw drop in disbelief. Seeing that headline was one of them. So sad. So senseless.

You did a great job capturing it. Never hesitate with your writing pieces, Lou. Your sensitivity is remarkable.

I'm this far behind. That is one of the most tragic things I've heard!!

You presented it the only way it could have been written. Well done on a difficult topic.

Momisodes: Mine, too, Sandy.

Maggie's Mind: I was stunned when he told me about it.
