The following is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by the very together Velvet Verbosity". The word is 'Snapped'.
"Why do ya thank he dun that, Paw?"
"Well, son, them Revenuers done burned down his house."
"Is that when it happen'd, Paw?"
"Naw. That didn't do it. After they burned down the house, they kilt his best dawg."
"They kilt Blue? Is that when he done it, Paw?"
"Naw, not even then."
"Well then, what else happen'd?"
"Well, then they found his still and they busted it up and poured out all his corn likker. But he snapped when a Revenuer threw his cigarette down the outhouse and blew it up. All of his Playboy Magazines were in there."
"I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key"
When I was a young man I was totally in love with Melanie. I was totally in love with a woman who could, who would, sing that song. To me, she was fresh and alive and so different from any woman I had known in my life. She was honest and frank, as women, to me, had always been such a mystery, and mysterious. It was like playing a game of cards and the deck was marked - and all the women in the world knew what the cards were and I didn't have a clue. But Melanie was willing to play the game straight up. At least, that's how it seemed to me. Naive, I know. But that was me.

Snapped was hilarious!
I used to love that song too. There is an all-girl band in the area that covers that tune... it's great.
Don't mess with the lad mags.
I love the twist at the end of your 100 words. Too funny.
Strange I always thought that song was about roller skates --- hmm. :)
I'll bet he only kept the Playboy magazines for the editorials?
Everybody does. ;-)
I'm glad the 100 word challenge is back and that you are a participant. You mean the guy didn't keep the magazines for the articles?... lol
That song always kind of creeped me out. Stalkers generally do.
Loved the "snapped" story!
What's next? I kinda wish we'd get together and try them out to see?
;-)
I love the 100 words, too.
Thanks for the smile dear one. Amazing what will drive a man insane isn't it...
It's a rare chance to come across another human being, that plays the cards straight up and lets you see them as they are. (Hugs)Indigo
Tara R: Thank you, Tara.
Velvet Verbosity: He kept them for the editorials.
Patsy: It was. And is. About roller skates.
Jientje: Right. Absolutely.
Joyce-Anne: Of course he did. He just did his reading in the outhouse.
Loraine: Thank you, Loraine.
Ree: Yes ma'am. Try 'em out.
Indigo: Rare indeed. Too few like you.
When I was a kid, my brother found the mother lode of "dirties" as we called them, down by the creek. He guarded those ancient old things with his entire being.
Boys will be boys.
