Preparation - ing

As opposed to decompressing, now I'm preparing. Organizing photographs. Writing out sequences of happenstance. Getting everything ready for Monday, when I plan to start telling the story of our trip to Trinidad. There's at least two or three days worth of stuff there. Maybe even more.

The best thing about the whole trip, though, was the fact that Louie and I got to be together as we never have before. The teenage years are long behind him. The rebellious years are done. We got to see each other as men, as equals, as Father and Son - not Parent and Child.

I am so proud of him. He is a fine young man and he acquitted himself well on the trip. He has some things to learn about travel and traveling, but he is also an eager student. He learns quickly.

He wants to go back to Trinidad - to work in the States for a while, save up some money, and go live there for a while. I don't blame him. If I were his age, and single, I would do that very thing.

In a heartbeat.

Ndinombethe.

Awesome that you and your son had such a great time and connected. Traveling with one of your kids can be really terrific.

Can't wait to see the photos and hear more!

I'm glad you and your son found one another as men, and were able to bond in a different way now. I'm sure it will be a week that will stay forever in the memory of the both of you. I'm under the impression that my own daughter is reaching out to me that way too. That she's finally searching for the real person in her mother. Feels good!

I am seeing glimpses of the woman Moo is to become. We still have our days when she acts like a spoiled child (like yesterday) but soon I hope to be where you are.

Sounds wonderful.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip.

It is great when we get to see our off-spring as adults. The new bond that forms is what prepares us for, well for who we are becoming also.

I look forward to the photos and stories.

And not only in regards to the trip but for you and your son as well.
Cool that he wants to go back there and live there a while.

I'm glad that you got to spend some time with the real man, not just the kid, in your son. Sounds pretty priceless, to me.

Maybe that reconnect was the real purpose of this trip... the rest was just icing. Good for you both, sounds like the trip of a lifetime! Can't wait to hear all about your adventure.

That must be a wonderful feeling Lou, seeing the happy results of all those years of hard parenting. I'm excited to hear of your adventures!

It's great that you had a great time with Louie. At the same time, it must warm your heart that being there was so enjoyable that Louie is considering a more lengthy stay.

What a great transition in the relationship from Parent & Child to Father & Son.

If I were single and young, I'd move to Trinidad, too!

I'm glad you got home o.k. and that you had a great time. :)

I was in Chicago for my company's meeting while you were in Trinidad. There is a Blick down the street from the Palmer House (where we were staying). I thought of you every time we went past it.

Welcome home dear one! Sounds like the trip to Trinidad was pretty close to perfect. The best is getting to know your son as a man. (Hugs)Indigo

It's so strange that first time you spend time with your parents on equal footing. I remember distinctly when it happened for me. I was home from my first semester of college and my poor mother tried to tell me to be home at midnight. And I laughed.

I also remember the first time I sat down to have a glass of wine with my parents. An equally bizarre experience, but one that I think makes spending time around each other far easier ... ;-)

So glad that you got to connect with your son like that. It's also amazing what a little travel can do to bring possibilities to mind. It's a good thing. Can't wait to hear the stories and see the pictures!

How wonderful for both of you to have that relationship now; real; person to person.

And of course I'm THRILLED that he enjoyed it so much he wants to go back!! If he had been there for carnival he might not have wanted to leave!
