Tis the season for ....

SADD and a number of other disorders seem to manifest themselves this time of year. The Holidays, it seems, aren't so holiday for some people. Depression, in all its forms, calls this the Holiday season, as well.

There is a group, an organization, who's intent and purpose is to help people avoid addiction, depression and suicide. If you know me, you know I love women. All women. Tall, short, slender or plump, dark or light. To lose even one to this terrible affliction, hurts me to think of. There are not enough women in the world as it is, and to allow us to be diminished by the loss of even more because of a treatable condition is an outrage and a sin. A sin against us all. A sin against mothers who will see their daughters die. A sin against children who will grow up without their mothers and in turn, have a greater potential to become victims of the same disorder themselves. This organization helps all, but the name speaks most to women, and like I said, I love women.

Zoeyjane of Mommy is Moody is DOING something. She is donating all the revenue from her advertisements on her site, for this month, to To Write Love On Her Arms. Go to Zoeyjane's site and read This Post. She gets paid by 'Impressions'. Just going there helps. Click on her ads - and help more. Click through to To Write Love On Her Arms and see what they do. Just doing that will help, too. This paragraph is going to appear at the end of each post, each day until the end of the month. As a reminder. Just click through. And help. Save the women and men and boys and girls that don't need to live without love, that don't need to suffer addiction and depression, that don't need to die.

Mark, the boys, Annie and I had dinner together today. Over at Mark's house. Chicken breast, rice and green beans. No salt. Margarine, not butter. Mark is going through a radical change in diet. No more BK. No more pizza. I think I may be eating more meals at home. But I will eat healthier than I have been doing. Just because.

Peace.

Thank you!!!

(and if y'all need any modified diet tips, just give a holler - we're all about the heart smartness over here [minus those snokes and the caffeine and generally bad life choices])

Thank you for loving all of us women folk, Lou. We love you, too. :)

Ditto what Maggie said. I love you--so you better take care of yourself. I'm going over to visit Zoeyjane now.

On another note, I'm gearing up for another busy week at school. Someone remind me why I joined the PTA...

You're right...it IS the season when it gets dark earlier and it's cold and glum. I always wonder if that's why I love to decorate for Christmas right after (even BEFORE) Thanksgiving... the LIGHTS. I need light. I love light. Especially those pretty twinkly ones in the windows and on the tree.

I'm heading over to Zoeyjane before I go to bed.

Your harem loves you, very much, Lou.

Glad to hear Mark is taking proactive steps for a good recovery.

you're too funny... 'there are not enough women in the world to...' but yes, on a more serious note, i have to agree with you.

holidays bring out the best, they bring out the worst. do your best, take your contribution (thanks to cat for that), and take it easy... one day at a time...

Thanks for pointing that way.
Will hop over and click through asap.

Yes, it seems that during this season all kinds of dark things creep out of the corners.

You all take care out there and YOU my friend, eat healthy is a good way to start :)

Clicking away! Great post as always Lou!

Nice that you could all have dinner together - no more BK and pizza is the first step in the right direction. A leap even - Mark will see a drastic change in his health. I don't think people realise just how bad that stuff is (not that I don't partake from time to time - but as with everything in life - moderation is key). Well done you lot!

*just because* is the perfect reason to stop and take stock of what goes in the mouth that probably shouldn't. It is *just because* that I have accepted my sisters challenge to lose weight by Christmas. Not diet, lose weight. *Just because*

I have been working on eating at home more and cooking and then limiting myself to one plate. I am having a lot of fun with it and we are saving money.

SADD and the holidays = a tough combination. My yoga teacher talks about finding ways to bring light into your life to help. One of her ideas that I loved was placing a strand of white Christmas lights in a crystal bowl, beautiful light and it brightens the spirit.

I will be clicking away....

You're right, the holidays can be tough. But having people, like you, acknowledge it, and be there, make a huge difference. :)

Clean eating is good for you - no pre made foods - all natural fruits and veggies with some brown rice or whole grains.

I finally began to really enjoy food when I changed the way I ate.

I'm with Hyphen Mama, I need light too! Those gloomy days really can sneak up on me all of a sudden! Counting the days till Spring.
I read Zoeyjane's post, and started clicking.
And "just because" is a very good reason indeed. I do the same, eating healthier ... just because

Zoeyjane: No smokes here, either. But caffeine and an occasional shot of Rum do reflect some poorer choices.

Maggies mind: Aww, shucks. You're welcome.

Joyce-Anne: Thank you for going over. And you did it because you're involved. In a good way.

Hyphen Mama: And I love them. Each and every one.

Susan: I do believe you're a spam artist. Please don't make me turn on Word Verification.

Shadow: One day at a time.

Nicole: Thank you, Nicole.

Tash: Thank you, Tash. We will be eating better.

Patsy: That's the way, patsy. Just because.

Hockeychic: Thank you, hockeychic. Eating at home is a GOOD thing.

Cathy: Thank you, Cathy. That was very kind.

Jennifer: You, my dear, are a sweetheart. Thank you.

Cat: Me, too. i eat less - but value it more - and it tastes better.

Jientje: Thank you, Princess.

Loraine: Thank you, ma'am.

I read Zoeyjane's post - heartbreaking! This is a good thing you both are doing.

That's great that your friend is going out and about. And good for you for taking better care of yourself.

Sorry I haven't been by, but there is no internet at camp, hell the cell phone barely works. I will click through and see what she has to say, and check out that site.

Suicide is a tragic thing. I have seen far too much in my previous employment. It always struck me as such a waste, and a lose of wonderful potential, no mater whom was involved. Your right the holiday season is the worst for that very serious problem.

You are such a sweetheart. I love that you and ZJ posted about this. I had not heard of TWLOHA before.

I often worry about SAD. Especially now that I live in a climate so different that I'm used to.

You are all so kind to have dinner with Mark.

Lou, I'm so sorry to hear what's been happening with your friend Mark, but very glad to see he's back at home. I hope caring for him isn't too hard on Annie especially with the extra EDS issues.
Love to you all, BG x
