SWMBO's birthday bash

Actually, it was just a REAL GOOD meal at a place called Boston Blackie's. I had ribs. And they were to die for. And a side of home style fries - which are a cross between potato chips and cottage fries. Dipped in ranch dressing, they are almost crisp and really delicious. And their cole slaw is amazing. How many places can you go where you can say that the cole slaw is amazing?
SWMBO had a filet mignon, butterflied and served medium. And a Bahama Mama. And several Buttered Nipples. I love the name of that drink. It is so evocative of things ... evocative. Erotic. There is a slightly erotic component to the name of that drink. It's vaguely reminiscent of alternative uses for whipped cream, if you know what I mean. Ahem. Cough.

Anyway, we had a little party, which had to remain 'little' because we all have jobs to do today and who wants to go to work hungover. Meh. Not me. Besides, there's too much fun to be had with a clear head that you might not remember properly if you have too much to drink. And I had to drive. Mandatory clear head.

But in the end we all had fun, especially the focus of our gathering, the now 49 year old SWMBO. And yes, there actually IS 14 years between us. So, when I was 21 she was 7. I know - that even shakes ME up. I try not to dwell on it. I just try to focus on 17 and upwards. Ahem. Cough.

Anyway, every one is safely home and abed. But me. I'm sitting here with my laptop getting my post done for tomorrow (today) so that I, too, can go to bed.

Actually, that was last night, given that I'm now writing in future tense, pretending that now is tomorrow morning.

Good, now your just as confused as I am.

Peace.

Hi
I saw your comment on Casdok's blog about NT and I just wanted to say that yes that word makes sense to me. It is a good word to describe the difference between 'them' and 'us'.

Happy birthday to Annie! My former husband was 14 years older than me -- when I was 5 he was 19. Weirded us out too so we just ignored that whole set of facts! Glad you had fun.

What day is it? I'm all confuffled now thanks to your confused present, future and past tense post?! Is today tomorrow?

Sounds like a great meal. Only thing I'd change is the steak would've been medium/rare - more rare than medium. Brand it on the ass and slap it on the plate to be perfectly honest.

11 years between me and the guy I'm dating now - shhh!

Happy Birthday Annie!

I've heard of slippery nipples, but not buttered nipples. A slippery nipple is Bailey's Irish cream and butterscotch schnapps.

BTW, my best friend and her husband are 13 years apart.

Michael said...

Glad u enjoyed yourself, i wouldnt mind some of those nipples

I've never had a buttered nipple.

Weird, seems like something I would like.....

Sounds like a great celebration! Happy Birthday Annie! I haven't thought of Bahama Mamas in a long time. When I was 18, I could get into bars in Michigan but couldn't drink so I remember my sister buying pitchers of Bahama Mamas and me sipping mine and hiding it under the table. Fun memory.

Aww, please wish Annie a very Happy Birthday for me! Sounds like it was a lovely time.

I've never been to a Boston Blackie's. And you are right. Good cole slaw IS rare. I've only found it once. And that was nearly 20 years ago.

Wait. What? said...

Boston Blackie's ! Yummmie!
Happy Birthday (belated) SWMBO!

Lou, you write your posts a day in advance?? How can you possibly be so organized?? Is that even allowed? Tash, around here today IS tomorrow. Run! Run!

Anytime you can say 'butter' and 'nipples' in the same sentence, you know a good time was had. Happy Birthday to SWMBO.

I was confused to start with. It's a relatively normal state of mind for me.

This is a sign of our aging, this worrying about workday hangovers. Did you worry about this at 18 or 21? I didn't. And, I am thankful now for this age that recognizes that the party is all the more sweet if I can remember all the details of it the next morning. Here is to hoping we all do the passage of time with grace.

I know I'm still full from dinner, but your meal description is making me hungry all over again! Stop! I am so prone to the power of suggestion, especially when bloggers write about food!

Glad you had a great family celebration. :)

I'm so late reading and commenting. I hope it's not to late to wish Annie happy birthday. I'm glad you guys had a wonderful time.

Buttered nipples have a special place in my heart. Cruise, ship's captain, dancing ::sigh::

Happy Birthday to Annie! Amazing cole slaw is really a thing of delicious beauty, isn't it? When it's not really just something to go on the side but something to savor. Nummy. Glad it was fun times!

Sounds like a great time! Nothing like a good piece of butterflied meat and buttered nipples on one's birthday. YUM all the way around.
