Live or Not

So now the question is, do I paint him live or from a photograph? I wonder if I can make him sit still for an hour. Can I drag him away from the PC to sit? Do you think he'll tolerate an hour away from the XBox? Or will he go into withdrawals; become a quivering mass of agitated flesh as I keep him away from his addictions for that brief hour of time?

Maybe I can nail him to the garage door.

Nail him to the garage door!

Or you could work from a picture...

I missed something here: Nail who to the garage and paint what?

I vote for the nail gun as well! Should make for an interesting composition... :)

girlblue: You think like I do - but nails would leave a mark.

redchair: In an earlier post, I hinted at the possibility of painting a portrait of my youngest son, Zach. Just to see what happens.

calicobebop: This is a bloodthirsty crowd.

Why don't you paint him while he's at the PC or XBox?

Lou is scaring me

Paint him at his place of worship. He'll be more himself if he's not scowling at being away from his games.

I agree with Rebecca- Absolutely paint him doing what he loves.

Whew! Your commenters are out for blood today! :)

If you paint him while on the PC or Xbox, it could be the same at from a photograph.

I'd say use technology to your advantage. Photo!

I used to think, when looking at those elaborate portraits, how did the painter get the subject to sit still for SO LONG! And the ones with a dog? Sheesh! When I visited Scotland, I learned that many painters had started the clothing, background and body ahead of time and only needed the subject for the face. Maybe you could do the same?

Take a picture, but try drawing from life as much as possible. (I, too, vote for nailing him to the door!). Failing that, how about asleep? I love to draw my sleeping boys, and if they are young enough you can rearrange them if they move without even waking them! If he's been annoying you can paint him with drool and stuff, and traumatize him for life.
